India hosts 13th ASEAN-India trade pact review meeting in New Delhi

India hosted the 13th ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement Joint Committee meeting in New Delhi to review ongoing trade pact negotiations.

India hosted the 13th ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Joint Committee meeting and related sessions at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, from 6 to 10 July 2026, to review progress on negotiations under the AITIGA Review. The meetings were held in a hybrid format, according to a Ministry of Commerce and Industry statement.

Three of the eight Sub-Committees under the AITIGA Joint Committee met on the sidelines of the main meeting: the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, the Sub-Committee on National Treatment and Market Access, and the Sub-Committee on Rules of Origin. The ministry said these sessions served as a platform to deepen cooperation and strengthen mutual understanding between India and ASEAN.

The Joint Committee gave strategic guidance to the Sub-Committees and urged them to expedite finalisation of the outstanding chapters under the AITIGA Review, assigning time-bound deliverables to keep the negotiations moving.

The 13th Joint Committee meeting, held on 7 July 2026, was co-chaired by Additional Secretary in India’s Department of Commerce, Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, and Malaysia’s Deputy Secretary General (Trade) at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms. Mastura Ahmad Mustafa. Delegations from all ten ASEAN member states — Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam — took part.

The ministry said ASEAN accounts for around 11 per cent of India’s global trade, with bilateral trade between India and ASEAN reaching $128 billion in 2025-26.
