Film star Jackie Shroff joined Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on July 7 to launch a health drive for women waste pickers in Chembur, Mumbai.

The event, held at the Fine Arts Cultural Centre, combined a free health check-up camp with a TB awareness campaign, and was inaugurated by the Governor.

The camp was launched alongside the NAMASTE Scheme as part of the ‘TB Mukt Mumbai’ campaign, started by Maharashtra Lok Bhavan in association with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The Governor and Shroff distributed Ayushman Bharat Health Cards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to the women waste pickers who attended.

Sushila Sable, Vice President of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers, and Asha Marathe, Corporator and Chairperson of the Ward Committee, were present at the launch.

BMC officials present included Additional Municipal Commissioners Prajakta Lavangare Verma and Dr. Vipin Sharma, and Dr. Kiran Dighavkar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Solid Waste Management, alongside Jyoti Mhapsekar, Dr. Prashant Narnaware, Secretary to the Governor, and women waste pickers from the Deonar area.
