Maharashtra flood video shows gas cylinders bobbing down river, sparking online buzz

A video showing hundreds of gas cylinders bobbing down a flooded river in Maharashtra’s Raigad district has sparked widespread online discussion this monsoon season, after floodwaters swept around 3,000 LPG cylinders out of a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) bottling plant in Patalganga, near Panvel.

Many people online said they were simply stunned by the sight of so many cylinders floating along the Patalganga River, while others questioned how the floodwaters reached the plant in the first place. Some locals were also seen wading into the river to try to pull cylinders out as they drifted past, alarming officials.

The Raigad district administration has repeatedly warned against retrieving or keeping the cylinders, saying they should be handed over to HPCL, an authorised distributor, or deposited at local Tehsildar and Sub-Divisional Officer offices in Khalapur or Pen.

District Collector Kishan Jawale appealed directly to residents to stay away from any cylinders found in the river or washed ashore, as authorities continue efforts to recover the missing stock.
